April 27, 2023| The CUPE employees of the Rouyn-Noranda store end their strike

The Rouyn-Noranda store employees represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) have voted to end their strike effective April 27, 2023.

The store will be open:

  • Thursday, April 27: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Friday, April 28: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 29: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 30: closed
  • Monday, May 1st: closed

The opening hours for the coming weeks will be announced soon.

The ongoing labour dispute now affects 24 of the 26 stores represented by CUPE. Meanwhile, normal operations continue at 74 of the network’s 98 stores, which are open during regular business hours. We encourage you to consider the available delivery options or to find a store near you.

The SQDC continues to hope to reach an agreement that is satisfactory to both parties.

March 27, 2023 | SCFP employees of the Rouyn-Noranda store exercise their right to strike

The Rouyn-Noranda store employees represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) are on strike as of today, March 27, 2023.

The Rouyn-Noranda store will remain open on March 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will operate with a reduced schedule:

  • Tuesday through Saturday: noon to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday and Monday: closed.

Operations continue normally at the 72 non-CUPE stores in the network as per the regular schedule.

January 4, 2023 | Same-day express delivery temporary extended to Mont-Tremblant

In order to improve accessibility to legal, lower risk cannabis products for customers living in certain areas affected by the ongoing strike, the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC) temporarily offer same-day delivery in Mont-Tremblant and surrounding area, starting from January 4th.

This additional delivery option allows the SQDC to ensure customer service and, at the same time, to fulfill its mission of protecting public health and safety in cities where stores hours are reduced due to the ongoing strike. Read the press release.

December 19, 2022 | Same-day express delivery temporary extended to three new cities

December 13, 2022 | SCFP employees of the Repentigny store exercise their right to strike

The Repentigny store employees represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) are on strike as of today, December 13, 2022.

The Repentigny store will remain open on December 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will operate with a reduced schedule:

  • Tuesday through Saturday: noon to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday and Monday: closed.

December 12, 2022 | Same-day express delivery temporary extended to three new cities

November 18, 2022 | Modified opening hours at 15 CUPE stores beginning November 26

Effective Saturday, November 26, the opening hours of some of the SQDC stores represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) will change. Some stores will now be open Monday to Friday while others will be open Tuesday to Saturday.

In addition to the 67 stores that remain open during their regular hours and to the home delivery solutions available on SQDC.ca, this change will give customers in the geographic vicinity of a strike-affected store access to an open store in their region six days out of seven.

Please note that only the days that the stores concerned are open will change. The opening hours of all strike-affected stores remain the same, namely noon to 5 p.m.

October 25, 2022 | SCFP employees of the Aylmer store now allowed to exercise their right to strike 

The Aylmer store employees represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) are on strike as of today, October 25, 2022. Their right to strike had previously been ruled illegal.

That right having now been acquired, the Aylmer store joins the 22 other CUPE-affiliated stores already on strike. See store list.

The Aylmer store will remain open on October 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. but be closed on Wednesday, October 26. The store will reopen on Thursday, October 27, but with a reduced schedule:

  • Tuesday through Saturday: noon to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday and Monday: closed.

August 27, 2022 | The Aylmer store remains open  

The SQDC has always recognized the right to strike as enshrined in the Labour Code. However, in the specific case of the Aylmer store, certification was granted to the store on April 28, 2022 and, as CUPE local 5454 failed to send to the employer a notice to bargain in compliance with the Labour Code requirements applicable to such certification, the right to strike will be acquired only on October 25, 2022.

À la suite de négociations intensives depuis le début de la semaine, nous sommes heureux de partager que la SQDC et la Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) ont conclu le 23 juin en fin de journée une entente de principe en vue du renouvellement de la convention collective. Les détails de cette entente seront présentés bientôt par le syndicat aux employés à l’occasion d’une assemblée générale.

La SQDC a été informée que les employés de 13 des succursales représentées par la CSN seront en grève ponctuelle les 22 et 23 juin.

Ces succursales demeurent ouvertes et le service à la clientèle sera assuré par les gestionnaires des succursales visées. Voici les horaires pour ces deux journées :

  • Mercredi 22 juin, de 10 h à 21 h

June 18 | June 18 | One-day walkout by the SQDC’s CSN employees

The SQDC has been informed that the employees of 13 of its stores represented by the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) will be on selective strike today, June 18.

The 13 stores remain open today during regular hours. The CUPE stores also remain open but on a reduced schedule.

June 15 | Selective strike of CSN employees at the SQDC

The SQDC has just been informed that the employees of 13 SQDC stores represented by the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) are going on selective strike today, June 15.

The 13 stores will remain open today during their regular hours. Customer service will be provided by the managerial staff of the stores concerned.

The CUPE stores also remain open but on a reduced schedule. Regular operations are being maintained at the 54 other stores in the network. The SQDC.ca website also remains available for online shopping. Customers are encouraged to check the schedule for their local store before heading out for a visit. Alternatively, they can take advantage of the various home delivery options.

June 8 | The SQDC’s CSN employees call a one-day selective strike

The SQDC has just been informed that the employees of 13 SQDC stores represented by the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) went on walkout today, June 8.

The 13 stores will remain open today during their regular hours. Customer service will be provided by the managerial staff of the stores concerned.

It should be noted that the CUPE stores also remain open but on a reduced schedule:

  • Tuesday to Friday: 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday and Monday: closed

Regular operations are being maintained at the 54 other stores in the network. The SQDC.ca website also remains available for online shopping. May 30, 2022 | CUPE employees call for an unlimited general strike.

We have been informed that the strike called by the employees of the 22 stores represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) will now be unlimited.

The 22 stores affected by the strike will be closed today, Monday, May 30. Thereafter, the reduced schedule will be maintained:

  • Tuesday to Friday: noon to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday: noon to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday and Monday: closed

Please note that the Lévis – Président-Kennedy store will be closed until further notice.

The 67 other stores are not affected by the strike and their operation are taking place normally.The sqdc.ca website also remains accessible for online purchases. The SQDC still invites customers to check their store schedule before coming to the store and to consider the various home delivery options.



 May 25, 2022 | Store operations maintained

The SQDC is maintaining customer service for the duration of the strike that was launched last Friday by the employees of the 22 stores represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) . Please note that the 67 other stores in the SQDC’s Quebec-wide network are not affected by the strike. The SQDC intends to continue carrying out its mission to convert cannabis users to the legal market by offering them safe access to quality products.

The 22 stores on strike remain open for business but on a reduced schedule. Customer service is provided by managerial staff. Here are the opening hours for the 22 stores:

  • Tuesday to Friday, May 24 to 27: noon to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 28: noon to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 29: closed

As usual, customers can also order SQDC products at sqdc.ca and choose among the various delivery and pick-up options that remain in effect: standard delivery, express delivery and in-store pick-up.

May 25, 2022 | Dress code

For several weeks now, some employees have, as a pressure tactic, stopped complying with the SQDC dress code. The code calls for employees to wear black clothing (black polo shirt, shirt or blouse and black pants). The SQDC respects the right of employees to engage in pressure tactics. For example, the company has not prevented employees from wearing coloured clothing and has not taken any disciplinary action in this regard.

However, to remain in compliance with its occupational health and safety rules and obligations, the SQDC does not allow its store employees to work wearing sandals or shorts. Employees who show up for work in shorts or sandals are asked to dress properly – to wear long pants and closed footwear – for safety’s sake. Employees are welcome to return to work wearing proper pants and footwear even if not otherwise in compliance with the dress code, at least until their union declares the strike over.

The collective bargaining process is ongoing and meetings between the parties are planned. For the SQDC, the priority remains to reach a negotiated agreement acceptable to both parties as quickly as possible.


May 24, 2022 | Extension of the CUPE strike

We have been informed that the strike called last weekend by the employees of the 22 stores represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) will be extended until next Sunday, May 29, 11 p.m.

Here are the reduced opening hours for the 22 stores concerned:

  • Tuesday to Friday, May 24 to 27: noon to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 28: noon to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 29: closed

As collective agreement negotiations continue, the employees of the 22 stores represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) will be on strike until May 23, 2022.

Although all our other points of sale remain open, we recommend that customers give priority to our online sales site sqdc.ca.

The 17 CUPE-affiliated stores open Monday to Friday, noon to 5 p.m. :

Saturday and Sunday : closed

  • Brossard – boulevard Matte (pick up in store only)
    • Open Monday to Thursday from 12 to 5 pm.

  • Lévis – Président-Kennedy (pick up in store only)
  • Magog

  • Montréal - Saint-Hubert
  • Québec - Lebourgneuf
  • Québec - Les Saules

  • Saint-Jérôme

The 6 CUPE-affiliated stores open Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.:

Sunday and Monday : closed

    • Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Mont-Tremblant
